Dr. Lisa Parissi
Owner + Chiropractor
I was originally inspired to be a healer as I wanted to help people live a better quality of life. What I did not realize was that my father would be the impetus for showing me just why this was so important.
While in Chiropractic school, my father started to get sick. Now, he had always been on many drugs for various conditions, a quadruple bypass and 4 failed back surgeries.
He was clearly not the pinnacle of health. But since he trusted his doctors implicitly, he continued to do every recommended procedure as prescribed. His last routine procedure required him to stop taking his anti-blood clotting medication.
However, they kept postponing the procedure for an entire month. By the time he started to not feel well, it was too late. He suffered a massive ischemic stroke affecting 80% of the right side of his brain. He was aphasic, unable to mechanically form the words even though it was clear he had things to say. He never walked again. He spent 2 and a half years trapped in his own head, unable to communicate more than 5 words, including “basketball” (he was a basketball coach) and “I love you too.” Watching him suffer was the the hardest thing that I would not wish on anyone, all the while trying to get through school.
What I realized through this experience was that it did not have to be this way. If I had been a doctor sooner and was treating him, educating him that there is a smarter, proactive way to age, that maybe his outcome would have been different. The 13 medications he was on does not define health. The lack of proper diet and exercise was not health. Laying in a hospital bed for 2.5 years while his organs were shutting down was not living. The suffering could have been avoided.
This is why I am so passionate about what we do at Wellness Choice. We transform the trajectory of our patients’ health, both now and in the future, through corrective chiropractic care. If I can save anyone from the suffering that I watched my father go through, then I am living a fulfilled life. If I can help our patients thrive into their older years, not just exist, then my heart is happy. This is my purpose.
After graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2016, I took over the reins of Wellness Choice in this lovely Newport Beach community. From the first moment I came to this area, my heart sang out that I had finally come home. This is where my spirit soars. My family has made a wonderful life here and we are so grateful for this journey.
What makes this practice unique is that it is heart-centered and focused on the uniqueness of each person. My personal promise to you is to honor, respect, and listen to you and to never end my pursuit in providing you with the most extraordinary chiropractic care possible.
